Costa Rica Mission, 2005
July 8, 5k Race, Drama Outreach in Old San Jose, Drama Practice
Lisa started our day with a 5K race in the Park. Appollos took first, Caleb 2nd, Orion 3rd and Josh 4th. Rachel was first among the girls. All afternoon we did drama outreaches in Old San Jose. It is a high end shopping and business district by day and then a center for nightlife. Lisa worked on dramas in the evening with our group and many of our Tico partners.

Our bus, which we ride in daily and have come to love, and our driver Victor who owns the bus and keeps it spotless, gets us to our destination. Our evangelism routine begins... |
We divide into two groups and each heads for a good site to set up, where we can get power, a crowd, and a suitable "stage." Orion heads one group and Josh the other. |
We find a spot and begin setting up... |
The site we pick is near a park, which we can't use. Costa Rica is very regulated. You need permissions to set up here... |
We know because these police officers tell us...but notice the two copies of the gospel of John which the officer is putting in her pocket...She asked for them from Mr. Pahl...we are safe! |
As always, when we play music and begin some attention-getter, a crowd begins to gather... |
Appollos (here playing Satan) torments Whitney in the "fighting drama." Notice the crowd is growing... |
A crowd has also gathered at the other site. Here Angela and others reach out to the crowd at the end of the Agnus Dei drama. |
The gospel is always preached in our dramas, nonverbally. |
Orion portrays Jesus taking on the infirmities of the human race... |
Rachel prays with a woman after a drama... |
Our Tico partner Estaban reaches our to his fellow Costa Ricans. |
Ross and Mike nail Jesus to the cross...the crowd is riveted... |
Rachel does a dance as night falls... |
We pass out gospels of John at the end of our dramas...here Lynn prays with a couple who told her they were living together and after watching our dramas they talked about getting married. |
A wonderful singing family, who the Pahls and Ballantines met in their trip to Costa Rica last summer, drew a large crowd where we had done our dramas. It is a husband and wife and two daughters who make beautiful music with simple voice and keyboards. Because Michael let the father use one of our power strips, he allowed us to do dramas to "his" crowd. It was a wonderful joining as we ministered the gospel together. |
Our young people, Ticos and Americans, provide a synchronized dance to the music of the Christian family, to the delight of those assembled... |
Here Stewart, who we met in the streets, prays with a young man. Stewart has spent much of his life ministering with his family in Romania and Russia, and happened to be in Costa Rica to check it out as the possible next location for his ministry. |
During a break in the action John helps out a street shoe shine man by utilizing his services. |
Night falls and we head home to... |
...practice dramas! :-) To keep crisp our service to the Lord... |
