Costa Rica Mission, 2005

July 12, Laundry, Classes, Soccer, Drama Practice

We got home past midnight last night because of a few wrong turns coming back from Arenal.  Kids were tired and clothes wet and filthy from the tropical rain and the zip line grease and dirt.  We still started the day off jogging (a bit later than usual), and then Lynn mobilized a huge laundry safari.

The Ticos challenged us to soccer in the afternoon, so how could we say no?  We won a sudden death over time game, 7-6, interestingly enough, on the same day that the US Soccer Team played the Costa Rica Soccer Team in the American Gold Cup in Foxboro, Massachusetts. (to a 0-0 tie...)  It was a lot of fun (but sorry, nobody took any pictures...)

After that we had drama practice...and went in two groups to the Church, one for "fuego" prayer meetings, and the other for more drama practice with our Tico partners.

NEWS FLASH--on the evening news, right after the Costa Rica-US soccer game, was the story of a fire at a San Jose hospital...the very hospital we had ministered in a week ago (see pictures from July 6...)

18 people died.  It was the 4th floor, the floor on which we ministered.  It is very likely that some of the people we prayed with, handed out gospels of John to, and invited to our dramas, were among those who died...This gives us a powerful incentive to keep pressing forward with the gospel in the schools, hospitals and barrios where we are still scheduled to go....

Practicing our drama "Turnaround."

Here is the newscast we watched...

This fire is in the part of the hospital where we were...
